What is the healthiest diet for dogs and cats?

The “BARF” diet is by far the healthiest choice you can make for the health and safety of your companion animal.

In the past, BARF has stood for "bones and raw food" and most recently has been changed to “biologically appropriate raw foods.”  The philosophy dates back many centuries and is based on the evolutionary diet of the wolf.  The ancestry of all canine lineages is rooted in an evolutionary development that started with wolves.

As human populations began to settle into villages and men became better hunters, wolves had to compete with men for food.  When wolves would kill their prey, they would eat it immediately.  But as soon as they caught any sign of a human, they would leave the kill because they were afraid.  It turns out that the only wolves that didn't starve and could survive were the ones that actually kept eating even as hunters began to descend upon them. Wolves with this particular “trusting” personality characteristic were the ones that got to eat, and the rest of the pack starved to death.  In time, they gradually became less afraid of humans. The wolves with this more trusting demeanor would eventually give offspring that, too, had a trusting demeanor.  So every successive generation of offspring gradually became more domesticated............and eventually they became trusted pets.  In time, and in conjuction with breeding practices, a vast network of different species evolved to become what we know today as the dog. 

The healthiest dogs are ones that are raised on a BARF diet.  When wolves ate their prey, they would eat the whole thing:  the raw bones, organs, and all the food that was inside the stomach and intestines from the animal that they killed.  Most of the animals that they ate were vegetarians themselves.  So the BARF diet consists of raw bones,organs, and raw vegetables.  Grains and other additives that are in pet foods today are simply man-made and not nutrient rich or compatible with a dogs or cats digestive system.
